Top-Down Perspectives in Sustainability Psychology: From Change Agency to Local Impact
keine

The course takes a multi-level perspective on social and environmental sustainability that integrates theoretical and empirical literature from various disciplines (e.g., psychology, social sciences, philosophy). In the first part, the course provides an overview over different methodological and theoretical approaches to the topic, taking a critical perspective on psychology. In the second part, the polycrisis and corresponding inequalities are discussed from various angles (e.g., trigger points, psychosocial effects). The third part addresses various approaches to socio-ecological transformation from a multi-level perspective.

By the end of the semester, students…
• … have the skills to select methodological approaches to address research questions concerning social or environmental sustainability and socio-ecological transformation; they also recognize differences between research paradigms.
• … have the skills to analyze and evaluate theoretical and empirical approaches to sustainability psychology (e.g., in terms of underlying ideologies).
• … understand different concepts of crises, transformation (e.g., contrasting Marx and Polanyi), and activism.
• … know empirical research on various psychological aspects of climate change, transformation, and crises.
• … can understand, recognize, and analyze different approaches towards socio-ecological transformation.
• … are able to reflection on their position as researchers, activists, and members of society regarding questions of social and environmental sustainability and socio-ecological transformations.

The lecture is on-site course that integrates teaching with participatory elements.
