Inhaltliches
This critical, interdisciplinary university course bridges foundational theories with contemporary debates, empirical practices and global human rights frameworks, with a particular focus on gender, power and social justice.
Students engage with classic feminist, gender and queer theories and understand how these are linked to other forms of social difference and heterogeneity.
Students analyze the role that supranational rights play in nation states and everyday practices, focusing on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Istanbul Convention, for example.
Students learn how to engage in critical discussion about the implications of key concepts in gender theory for different areas of society, including families, early childhood education, schools, universities, sports and employment.
Students are encouraged to draw connections between theoretical concepts and contemporary political and social discourse. This includes movements such as #MeToo and #BlackLivesMatter, as well as topics such as toxic masculinity, the 'tradwife' subculture, and anti-trans/anti-gender ideology activism and violence.
