Inhaltliches
The latest research and application advances on green and sustainable chemistry will be presented by several experts from different sectors (as real case examples). Emphasis will be given on innovations that provide desirable functions of chemicals, materials, products and production processes, without causing harm to the socio-environment, while at the same time meeting broader socio-development goals across the globe. The proposed contents include important tools for digitalization, carbon footprint analyses, design for circularity, hazard assessment and design of safer chemicals, the ability to scale reactions from lab to plant, and the ability to communicate science to funders, policymakers, and collaborators in different disciplines. The module also proposes the investigation of gender relations in chemicals policy and chemicals management. Diversity and gender expertise should be taken into account when networking with practice partners.
To enable students to:
- Analyse current advances in Green & Sustainable Chemistry.
- Use digital tools for molecular design, data analysis, and assessment.
- Perform carbon footprint and hazard assessments.
- Apply safe-and-sustainable-by-design principles.
- Communicate scientific content effectively to diverse audiences.
- Integrate gender and diversity perspectives into scientific and policy contexts.
- Active participation in 1 exercise, written (30%)
- Case study work with in silico methods, written report (70%)
