Approaches to Global Democracy
none

For many authors, democracy is more than a form of government – it is a way of organising society. In this seminar, we discuss how our understanding of democracy changes when we separate it from the territorial nation state. We discuss concepts such as cosmopolitanism, global governance and (conceptual and practical) problems of a democracy without borders. The seminar thus combines approaches from the history of ideas and democratic theory with perspectives from international relations.

Students learn about the state of research and apply academic analyses and discussions to current political debates.
