This course offers a hands-on introduction to Corpus Linguistics, the study of language using large, digitized collections of naturally occurring speech and writing, known as corpora. During the course, you will work with a range of genres and registers and be guided to access, analyze, and visualize corpus data, work with online resources and software applications, and to also create your own small corpus. In addition, the course aims to demonstrate some of the applications of Corpus Linguistics, more specifically in the areas of genre analysis and English language teaching and learning.

- erweitern und vertiefen die im BA erworbenen sprachwissenschaftlichen Kenntnisse und Kompetenzen sowie ihre theoretische Reflexionsfähigkeit
- verfügen über vertiefte Kenntnisse zum Gebrauch der englischen Sprache im intrakulturellen und interkulturellen Kontext
- können selbständig ein thematisch begrenztes Problem im genannten Bereich anhand empirischer Methoden bearbeiten
- können Literatur in der Zielsprache Englisch selbständig erarbeiten und kritisch reflektieren
- können Daten selbständig und kritisch reflektiert anhand verschiedener empirischer Methoden erheben und anhand einschlägiger Analysemethoden wissenschaftlich analysieren
- können selbstständig kompliziertere Korpusanalysen betätigen
- können die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse in einer den wissenschaftlichen Anforderungen genügenden Weise in der Zielsprache mündlich und schriftlich darstellen
The Prüfungsleisung involves successful completion of course assignments. In addition, the methods acquired in the methodology course will be used in the completing your project report and the focus of the report reflect the content of the accompanying seminar.
