This seminar takes a look at the social, political, and cultural themes in the United States in a turbulent time in American history from multiple perspectives, analyzing both high and popular culture, mainstream and marginalized voices.
Emphasis will be placed on the following key competencies:
*gaining an overview of the important events and social movements of the 1960s
*reflecting one's own culturally determined values, behaviour and ways of thinking;
*identifing and interpreting explicit or implicit values in documents and events in other cultures (critical reading skills)
*to further develop intercultural skills (cultural awareness, multiple perspectives; empathy, open-mindedness, etc.)
*developing a greater awareness for the ethnic and religious minority groups in North America and beyond.
Use of AI: The critical use of AI is permitted exclusively for language learning in private, data protection-compliant AI systems (e.g., tools from the Academic Cloud).
The use of AI for assessment tasks is not allowed.
The uploading of my presentations and copyrighted materials (e.g., photos from textbooks) to AI systems is also prohibited.
