Achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls is fifth on the list of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ratified by The United Nations as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In this seminar, we look at how sexism is expressed and transmitted through language and how men and women use language differently in constructing their social identities. We also examine the portrayal of women and men in the public arena and how such portrayals affect the way we conceptualise gender.
