The course examines girl groups from the 1920s to the present day. The focus is on North American and British girl groups, but we will also look at Asian girl groups, particularly since the 2000s. We will examine the historical contexts, as well as the media portrayal and musical expression of girl groups in a male-dominated world.
Students can reflect on historical backgrounds of girl groups in the popular music business of the USA, Europe, Korea and Japan (and maybe more).
Students are able to create a reasonable and researchable research question on a girl group history related topic.
Students can conduct their own research for articles and other sources related to their chosen topic. This includes using AI tools in a considered manner, or avoiding them altogether.
Students are able to write an academic essay and develop their own style of scholarly expression.
