Content and concept

Due to demographic change the share of older employees in many Western countries and therefore in many organizations is increasing. In the seminar we will take a closer look at age-related changes and their significance in the work context based on psychological theories on aging.

We will do so by means of short inputs, discussions, reading scientific articles, and small group presentations. Specifically, we will explore the following aspects:

1. Successful Aging and Psychological Concepts of Aging
2. Action regulation - What role does individual action play in aging at work?
3. Motivation - Do older employees have different needs than younger ones?
4. Stress & Emotion Regulation - Do older and younger employees differ in dealing with emotional demands?
5. Age-appropriate work - How can working conditions be designed to be age-appropriate?

Objective

Students know important psychological theories of aging and their significance for the work context.
Students will practice the practical application of these theories using business case studies.
