Content
In small groups, students will dive into different areas of social cognition & emotion by running their own experiments. Our goal is to investigate processes underlying different societal-relevant phenomena and constructs, such as social cognition & emotion, human imitation, belief in free will or trust in science — to name just a few examples.
This course consists of the following 10 parts: (1) discussing relevant empirical literature of social and cognitive psychology, (2) identifying a research question, (3) deriving hypotheses, (4) getting to know research designs in applied psychology, (5) applying an empirical research design, (6) implementing and conducting an empirical research project, (7) collecting data, (8) analyzing the data, (9) evaluating the results, and (10) presenting the findings.
Students will gain knowledge in extracting interesting research questions and in transferring those research questions to appropriate research designs. Students will extend their overall research skills in specified areas of research. They will improve their social competencies by working in small groups to conduct an empirical research project within one semester. En route to completing the empirical research project successfully, the students will learn how to coordinate, organize, and lead teams to complete the research project on time.
