In this seminar we will focus on Urban Political Ecology, a interdisciplinary research field that examines intertwined and multiple relations between society, technology and the environment in urban spaces from (power-)critical perspectives.
In doing so, we will examine the origins and development of this field and its theoretical foundations, explore and discuss important concepts and terms and focus on current debates surrounding more-than-human perspectives and digitality. Throughout the seminar, special attention will be given to water and its infrastructures, which have long been the subject of political-ecological research in and beyond the urban.
Students are expected to gain a solid theoretical foundation and the ability to analyze key arguments through the critical reading of texts. In addition, weekly participatory discussions, conceived and led by student groups, introduce creative methods and the analysis of contents that are further developed through collaborative learning.
