This course covers the key steps and methods of interdisciplinary MVP development based on the Lean Startup approach. The Minimum Viable Product (MVP) is used in product development to assess a product’s market viability as quickly as possible with minimal effort and to avoid misguided development efforts.
At the outset, students are provided with a fundamental understanding of innovation processes, user-centered design, and experimental entrepreneurship. Working in teams, they identify their own problems and develop initial ideas, which they refine using structured methods for idea generation and problem definition. They then learn to formulate hypotheses and systematically test them through experiments, user interviews, and market observations.
At the core of the module is the iterative development of an MVP—a prototype that tests key assumptions with minimal resource expenditure and enables rapid learning.
Digital tools from the Academic Cloud and relevant AI tools are utilized in this process. Through ongoing feedback and coaching, the teams reflect on their learning and decision-making processes and derive concrete adjustments to their MVP based on user experiences. Finally, students pitch their results and compile them into a structured report to present the viability, impact, and learning progress of their project. This may be done in collaboration with local SMEs. The module integrates theoretical knowledge, collaborative teamwork, and practical project work into a holistic learning experience.
