International Economic Law and Sustainability

In this module the students will be introduced to international economic law, particularly world trade law, and its intersections with sustainability issues will be addressed, in particular environmental protection and labour and social standards.

Upon successful completion of this module, students will possess a solid understanding of the core theories, principles, and current developments in international economic law as they intersect with sustainability challenges (e.g., trade-environment linkages, investment-climate governance, and sustainable development goals). They will be able to critically analyse and apply relevant legal instruments—such as WTO agreements, bilateral investment treaties, and EU sustainability regulations—to real-world cases.
