"Post-colonial Literature" describes the emergence of literature framing how a new nation comes to see and define itself as the colonial departs. As will be described in the class, this involves creating a shared consciousness through the media of story-telling. Required is the generation of new narratives about who is "us" and "them." This happens through literature in various forms. Among them are fiction, newspapers, film, music lyrics, etc.
Students will be asked to describe the emergence of a literature in a new nation/region through a series of assignments during the semester, culminating in a final paper due .
