Inhaltliches
In this seminar students will gain insights into how human behavior and its psychological underpinnings contribute to the emergence and mitigation of pressing global issues such as climate change and biodiversity loss. We will discuss research on motivation, emotion, communication, self-regulation, and decision-making with a specific focus on contemporary empirical research from the field of environmental psychology. Through project-based learning, the acquired knowledge will be applied to a real-world case involving external stakeholders. In their projects, students will develop evidence-based interventions and communication strategies to foster more sustainable individual and collective action.
By the end of the seminar, you will be able to…
…describe the principles of motivation, emotion, communication, self-regulation, and decision-making with a specific focus on state-of-the-art empirical research from environmental psychology
… integrate and combine research from psychology with the environmental, economic, and political sciences to develop a more holistic understanding of sustainability.
…critically evaluate empirical research from psychology and sustainability sciences (e.g., with respect to robustness & reproducibility of findings)
…transfer the acquired knowledge to real world problems to promote sustainability
…apply evidence-based intervention strategies in interdisciplinary settings and effectively communicating them to audiences outside academia.
