This course uses Starting literature: Dowling, Festing, Engle (2023), IHRM (8th ed.). Cengage Learning. (DFE) as starting literature for every topic. The class explores the importance of international business management in the context of international human resource management, including topics on culture, compensation and benefits, international organizations and their structures, international assignment management and the legal and regulatory considerations that global organizations face. This course will help students identify differences in operating a domestic versus and international business and how business practices will need to be adapted to operate successfully in foreign markets.

The design of this class is aimed at the development of several of your skills, contacts. and competencies. Groups of students will run interactive sessions with material they have put together from different sources, including
- book chapter
- relevant recent literature
- interviews on their topics with subject matter experts
The scientist-practitioner model of learning will be applied by you in covering the topics of this class. I invite you to include practitioners in your research and teaching as they are experts for practice in their specific fields. It will be very important to understand their perspectives on our topics, the differences of international vs. domestic HRM, etc.

The objective of this course is to help students gain insights into and appreciation of the complexities and differences of operating a business in an international context as it applies to HRM.

All topic relevant meetings will be run by a group of students. Students will design the respective meetings, lead through the learning process, and receive feedback from the group including the professor. It is expected that the leaders will base their session on a book chapter, a self-organized literature search (minimum of five recent peer-reviewed articles) and integrate findings from three interviews with practitioners, including their perspective on future digital developments of the respective field.

Every group will meet the professor early in the semester to discuss their plans and course of action.

Together, we will disseminate and discuss the latest research in the field of IHRM, and share insights on how to put research into practice.

Further details:
To achieve the best active personal and professional development in this class, students will play active roles. Small groups will prepare and moderate every session. Every small group will develop their own class design including the following elements:
- Develop several teaching and learning elements including an arc of suspense to make the class special
- Make more relevant literature accessible, use DFE as starting point only
- Identify a minimum of five recent articles that contribute to the topic and integrate them in your teaching
- Look for three external experts for interviews and discussion in class, on video, or via Skype
- Integrate the practical findings into your presentation as a current reference
- Discuss and develop the class design together with fellow-students and get feedback from other students and professor
- Use cases or vignettes for group work
- Leave room for discussion and feedback
